Getting About

Getting up and down the Las Vegas Strip is a breeze, even in the stuffy heat. The blissfully air-conditioned Las Vegas Monorail runs from the MGM Grand to SLS Las Vegas and has seven stations: MGM Grand, Bally's / Paris, Flamingo, Harrah's / The LINQ, Las Vegas Convention Center, Westgate Las Vegas and SLS Las Vegas. Walking is always fun at night, too. Count the weirdos and casinos along the way, or call Uber and Lyft for a personal chauffeur if you’re going farther than the strip.

The Grand Canyon and beyond

Step away from that windowless casino and take in some real Nevada views. Several tour companies offer trips out of Vegas by plane, helicopter or bus. Besides, a holiday to Vegas wouldn’t be complete without exploring the stunning West Rim of the Grand Canyon. Feel the world grow smaller as you sit on the edge and watch the sun sink into the depths of one of the Earth’s largest gorges. The lights of Vegas are nothing compared to the awesome pink hues of a Grand Canyon sunset.

What’s better than a buffet?

All-you-can-eat buffets are a thing in Las Vegas, but Sin City also has some of the best gourmet dining options in the country. The Steak House in Circus Circus is a meat-eater’s dream, offering a private-club setting and juicy cuts. For a garlicky, Cajun kick, treat your taste buds to Hot N Juicy Crawfish. And if you’ve only got dessert on the brain, the red velvet pancakes with cream cheese syrup at BabyStacks Cafe are stupid good. Don’t worry, you can burn them off later by dancing.

What to do in Las Vegas for 3 days

Ride the world’s largest Observation Wheel

Bigger than both the London Eye and the Singapore Flyer, the LINQ High Roller offers you some of the best views of the Las Vegas Strip; there's no better perspective than the one you get 550 feet (167m) up in the sky. As you float around in one of 28 state-of-the-art cabins, you’ll be moving at a leisurely foot-a-second. Turn the party right up by booking the Happy Half Hour ticket and enjoy an open bar. Bar cabin guests must be 21 or older.

Adrenaline-pumping activities

Get behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Aston Martin on a real racetrack at Vegas’s Exotics Racing School. Go on and opt for some one-on-one coaching with a sexy male instructor – a perfect distraction for ladies on a hen weekend. Vroom vroom, indeed! Want more action? How about screaming through the desert on a zipline? Or driving a bulldozer, excavator or both at Dig This, a “Heavy Equipment Playground.” Can you dig it? Yes you can.

Get to the Grand Canyon

Sure, it’s not actually in Las Vegas, but the Grand Canyon is so tantalizingly close to Sin City it’d be silly not to make time for this geological marvel. Besides, with both helicopter and plane flights to take you out and back from McCarran Airport, you hardly have to give up any gambling time. And anyway, as fun as it is to fork over your money to the Sin City casino magnates, the Grand Canyon offers you memories you will actually prefer to remember.

Take in a Vegas show

It’s not all Blackjack and Poker. Performing shows in Vegas has been a venerable career path for stars as far back as the Rat Pack. Nowadays there’s a thief’s banquet of shows on offer (venerable circus institution Cirque de Soleil has no fewer than six different shows running concurrently). Other highlights include magic shows from Mat Franco, Criss Angel and Penn & Teller, and concerts from Boyz II Men, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears.
