The incorporation of the work of women artists is one of the priorities in the construction of the museum's Postwar and Second Vanguard Art collection. Maternasis, which takes its name from an iconic book by the artist Núria Pompeia, published in 1967, will allow us to rediscover surprising creators, some of them until recently forgotten, such as Mari Chordà, Roser Bru, Parvine Curie and Núria Pompeia herself.
Among the works of these creators stand out those that deal with their own intimate issues of which, paradoxically, women have often been deprived. One of these themes, exceptional in an iconographic corpus that has been dominated by men, is pregnancy, a key stage of motherhood, which intimately concerns women and has a mysterious and profound, yet social dimension. In the works of Chordà, Bru or Curie, pregnancy manifests this physical and vital dimension.
