Tradition, power and culture lie at the core of this exhibition dedicated to the art of the chiefdoms of Cameroon.
On the Road to Chiefdoms of Cameroon: The Visible and the Invisible presents some 300 works, including 260 treasures conserved by several chiefs and family lineages. It looks at the culture of Cameroon's communities and the preservation of a unique, historical and living heritage.
Dedicated to the art of the communities settled on the high-altitude plateaus of Grassfields, in west Cameroon, you can delve into a unique and historic heritage, carefully preserved for centuries by traditional chiefs. From monumental architecture, foundry, and bead creations, to wooden sculptures, textile production, and traditional dances.
Almost divine figures, these chiefs are the main custodians of this heritage, the guarantors of both tradition and the connection between the world of their ancestors and the lives of the living.
Interspersed with works by contemporary Cameroonian artists, it highlights the cultural influence of chiefdoms on contemporary art and the living dimension of heritage through a visitor circuit designed to take you to the heart of Bamileke society.

Suspended on a series of pillars, the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac features a vertical garden on the Seine side and enormous multicolored blocks on another. And once inside the grounds, the horizontal garden is full of birds and plants, walkways and paths.
Inside the museum, it's an anthropological journey around the world via art and artifacts. The permanent collection reaches back as far as the Neolithic period, and spans Oceania, Asia, Africa and the America.
