Tangalooma Wrecks
The Tangalooma Wrecks are the most famous wrecks on Moreton Island, just off the coast of southeastern Queensland, Australia. They comprise fifteen vessels, which were deliberately sunk to form a break wall and now make for an impressive, colourful sight against the blue of the water and sky.
Approaching, you'll see a line of old Harbours and Marine Department steam-driven dredges and barges sinking into the edge of a sandbank. Scuba divers are often brought here on trips to admire the plentiful ocean life all around this quirky manmade wall. You can also swim to the wrecks from the beach if you have your own snorkeling gear, although currents can be strong and you must be a strong swimmer who knows how to handle rips.
