:From Friday 29 April 2022 the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica will reopen the doors of the eleven rooms on the ground floor of Palazzo Barberini, completely renovated and refurbished.
The 50 works on the ground floor, from the early Middle Ages to the very early 16th century, are arranged in chronological and geographical order that interweaves and presents the public with different levels of interpretation: through a series of "rooms" dedicated to thematic moments and in-depth monographic studies, links and cross-references between the works of a morphological, thematic, typological, semantic, iconographic and contextual order are highlighted.
The room panels and didactic apparatus illustrate the decorations and architectural elements of what was originally Prince Taddeo Barberini's flat, providing visitors with a valuable aid to the exhibition.
The new rooms are accessed through the new Orientation Room, also known as the Monkey Room. Here, visitors will find a timeline running along the walls, highlighting the main events in the history of Palazzo Barberini and the museum: a sort of "red thread" that ends graphically with a multimedia table, designed to enhance the museum's enjoyment by giving visitors the opportunity to explore various themes about the Palazzo, from the protagonists of the Barberini family to the artists who worked there and the collection. The table can be accessed by five people at the same time, who can choose different paths and consult different contents, in Italian and English
