Kawasaki Sudare Workshop
Around a 40-minute drive from Kyoto, this Kawasaki Sudare Workshop is home to a wealth of knowledge, traditional techniques, and expert craftspeople. Sudare have been used as sunshades and blindfolds in Kyoto since ancient times and can reduce the temperature in a room by up to 4°.
Visitors to the workshop can see first-hand the traditional production of Japanese Sudare, and make their own using reeds and bamboo. The site includes an exhibition hall and a workshop, and machines that have been in use for over 50 years.
