Church on the Hill (Sf. Nicolae)
Sighișoara's Church on the Hill is a Gothic-style church, located on an imposing hill overlooking the city. Its history dates back as early as 1345, and the church has seen multiple catastrophes and rebuilding efforts since. In 1704, during the Hungarian siege, the roof and the belfry of the church were burned, and its bells collapsed. In 1838, it also suffered substantial damage as the result of an earthquake. The current interior of the church is a direct result of restorations that took place in 1934, when frescoes dating back to the 1700s were discovered which had previously been covered up with lime.
