Castle of Cardona
The Castle of Cardona was constructed in 886 and is considered one of the most important medieval castles in all of Spain. Sitting majestically on a hilltop, it offers eye-melting views of the surrounding valley and the Pyrenees.
The building has undergone numerous renovations and extensions over the course of the centuries. You'll see elements of Romanesque and Gothic styles, plus the Minyona tower, where the young maid Adalés was allegedly kept as a recluse by her parents for being involved in an illicit affair!
Visitors can also explore the Church of Sant Vicenç, built in 1040 on the site of the old chapel of the castle. Don't miss the crypt below the presbytery – the Chapel of the Relics.
