San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
Climbing the 241 steps of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is no easy feat, but you'll be rewarded with incredible views as you make your way to a 1,000-year-old hermitage. Make sure to ring the bell at the top three times for good luck – in fact, you'll hear it chiming all day long!
This small chapel was built in honor of John the Baptist to ensure the protection of sailors out in the perilous Bay of Biscay. It makes for an easy day-trip from Bilbao or San Sebastián and is located right off the Basque coastline.
