Sun Moon Lake
With views as mystical as its name suggests, Sun Moon Lake is one of the most jaw-dropping locations and the largest body of water in Taiwan. Named after its distinctive shape, which is thought to resemble a crescent moon and a sun, the lake is surrounded by stunning mountainous scenery, which is home to some of Taiwan's last aboriginal communities.
Unsurprisingly, the lake is a big draw for sightseers and it comes ready-made for some awesome outdoor exploration. It has a huge network of cycle routes around its perimeter, breathtaking cable car rides that soar high above the lake to reveal its shape from a bird's-eye view, as well as many sightseeing boat cruises.
