Getting around

The layout of Boston isn’t as grid-like as many other cities in the United States. As such, the streets have a slightly European feel. Boston is a delight to walk, but it’s big: don’t hesitate to try the convenient public transport. The bus lines and subway are owned by the same company, which makes things easier.

For a more scenic trip, water shuttles, ferries and commuter rails are available, but they’re less frequent and not always as convenient as the bus or subway. Boston is a highly bike-friendly city, just make sure you know the rules of the road if you decide to hop on two wheels.

Climate

Boston is a city that’s beautiful year-round, which is probably a good thing considering the weather can be unpredictable. Summer (or something a lot like it!) stretches from May to September, with periods of high heat and humidity.

The city is stunning during the autumnal months and well worth a visit, but beware of winter – the New England snow is a force to be reckoned with!
